Inkybet cookie policy

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make sites work properly, to make them more efficient and to provide information to the site owners. Alongside cookies we use similar technologies such as local storage and pixels; in this document we refer to them collectively as 'cookies'.

Inkybet uses cookies for three main purposes. First, to make the site work: session cookies remember your language preference and keep the site responsive. Second, for security: cookies help detect and block bot traffic. Third, for analytics: aggregated, anonymised statistics tell us which articles are read so we can improve our content.

We do not set third-party advertising cookies. Advertising on Inkybet is limited to internal references to Inky Bet and does not use tracking pixels that follow your behaviour across other sites.

Strictly necessary cookies enable core functionality: session identification, language selection, security checks. These cookies cannot be disabled without degrading the site. They do not store personally identifiable data.

Preference cookies remember choices you make yourself, such as the default language. Without them you would have to reset your preferences on every page.

Analytics cookies are non-essential cookies that deliver aggregated visitor statistics. We ask for your prior consent through the cookie banner. Data collected is anonymised and shared with an analytics partner under a processor agreement.

Some features on the site (for example embedded YouTube videos or a share button) can set cookies on behalf of the relevant provider. We have no direct control over those cookies. Please refer to the cookie policy of each provider for further information.

When you visit an external partner site via one of our CTA buttons (for example clicking through to Inky Bet), that partner will set its own cookies according to its own policy. We accept no responsibility for those cookies.

Session cookies are deleted as soon as you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain until an expiry date (ranging from a few weeks up to 24 months). You can delete cookies at any time from your browser settings.

Local storage entries remain until you delete them or explicitly reset the site via the cookie preferences.

On your first visit Inkybet shows a cookie banner where you can accept or reject non-essential cookies. Your choice is stored in a dedicated cookie and remembered for 12 months. After that we ask again. You can change your choice at any time via the 'Cookie preferences' link in the footer.

You can also set your browser globally to accept or reject certain cookies. Note that turning off all cookies degrades some features on the site; some functionality requires at least the strictly necessary cookies.

The following examples illustrate the cookies you may encounter during your visit. The list can change; consult the cookie preferences for the current state.

A cookie 'inkybet_locale' stores your language preference and has a lifespan of 12 months. A cookie 'inkybet_consent' records your choice in the cookie banner and is also kept for 12 months. Analytics cookies from our partner (for example 'ga_session') are only placed if you accept analytics and typically expire after 24 months.

Your browser may send a 'Do Not Track' (DNT) or 'Global Privacy Control' (GPC) signal. Where reasonable and technically possible, we honour this signal as a refusal of non-essential cookies. In that case only strictly necessary cookies are set and no analytics data is recorded.

In the absence of such a signal, the choice you have made via our cookie banner applies. You can reset your preferences at any time.

You have the right to refuse or withdraw your consent for cookies without giving a reason. Refusal or withdrawal does not block access to the site, although the user experience may be limited in places.

You are also entitled to access the data collected via cookies and to request its deletion. Requests can be sent to the contact address in the footer and are handled within 30 days.

Every modern browser lets you manage cookies manually. In Chrome open Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data; you can refuse all cookies, delete specific ones or set exceptions for trusted sites. Firefox keeps the same options under Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and Site Data.

Safari on macOS and iOS manages cookies through Preferences > Privacy. Edge follows the Chromium structure. Preferences are stored per browser profile and are not synchronised across devices, so switching device means reconfiguring the settings.

To measure page visits we use a privacy-friendly analytics solution that processes minimal personal data and anonymises the IP address immediately. That provider is bound to us by a processor agreement compliant with GDPR.

We may switch to a different analytics solution in the future. Should that happen we will update this cookie policy in due time and, where required, ask for your consent again. The current list of analytics providers is available via the cookie preferences.
